As I walk in abrasive sand
Shells lie astray and shrapnel rest beside me
My feet weep for the touch of grass
Several body parts grazed by artifacts of war
That deface the houses of sand

The sound of death is so shrill
It is heard in every ear
But how could an admirable heart
Grow so cold?

And after deeds so unjust
They put this weapon in my hand
But I was bitter enough to wield it

The result of discipline staring in these eyes
That will haunt forever
Every second I comply with haste
Lest I may not see tomorrow

I try to hold fortitude and valor
in this constant series of contemplations
In the flare filled night sky
And the sun that makes every man wilt

The effects of this conflict
Will never be redeemed
NO HAND OF ASSAULT
LEAVES THE BATTLEGROUND UNSCARRED

No bloodshed goes without consequence
I redefine the duties of a soldier
To inherit the screams of a dying man

My hopes wane in remorseful letters
A testimony of resentment for shredding this foreign soil
The sand turns red beneath me
In the remains of the fray
I stand numb to the sight of death
